The Employment Line, Episode 10: Happy Holidays from DirectEmployers

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

DirectEmployers Association would like to wish all of our Members, partners and supporters a cheerful holiday season. We know this time of year can be a mix of stress and joy, so several staff members collaborated to create a video with some tips to help you get through the season:

Some tips include:

  • Add holiday spirit to any space with DIY crafts.
  • Start saving money by putting away $1 per week, then add a dollar more each week – by the end of the year, you’ll have over $1,300.
  • Do your shopping online to avoid the hustle and bustle in stores.
  • Keep a close eye on coupons, sales and specials to maximize your budget.

What suggestions would you share for a smooth holiday season?

The Employment Line, Episode 9: National Disability Employment Awareness Month Efforts from ODEP & EARN, DEAM13 Registration Deadline

Monday, October 7th, 2013

October is an important month for the Association. Not only is the DirectEmployers Annual Meeting and Conference just days away, but it also is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)–a topic that is on all federal contractors’ minds in light of the revisions to Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act. Watch our latest episode of The Employment Line to learn how DirectEmployers is helping Members with disability outreach and to get some great DEAM13 tips.

The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) promotes a national campaign to bring awareness to disability employment. To help employers with their disability outreach, DirectEmployers partner organization Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN) is hosting a free weekly webinar series throughout the entire month. Webinars will focus on disability disclosures and self-identification, as well as proactive compliance strategies for federal contractors. To learn more about this series and register to attend these webinars, visit http://askearn.org/ndeam_registration.cfm.

To pay homage to a community whose military roots run deep, we’ve chosen this year’s conference to have a military theme–however, that’s not all you’ll find. DEAM13 features tracks for recruitment, technology, compliance and leadership. But hurry – conference registration ends on October 14. Register to attend by visiting http://deam13.directemployers.org/register.

In addition to our impressive session lineup, we’ve got tips on how you can make the most of your conference experience.

  1. Expand Your Professional Network: Mingle with fellow attendees and strike-up conversations to help build your professional network.
  2. Utilize Our Mobile Text Program: Sign up for our DEAM13 text alerts and you’ll receive timely alerts and important updates before, during and after the conference. To join, simply text DEAM13 to 55678.
  3. Interact on Social Networks: Remember when using social networks while at the conference to use #DEAM13. This will allow you to join in the conversation and keep up with what’s happening during other sessions.

You can also network with fellow attendees during the DEAM13 Pre-Conference Online Networking Event on Wednesday, October 16 at 1:00PM. Visit https://www.brazenconnect.com/event/deam_october_16 to register.
